All About Organization

If you are thinking about taking the jump into flexible seating there is a very important key you must think about before you begin...organization. Many people will dive into flexible seating before thinking of this step and find themselves scrambling to find quick solutions. I'm excited to walk you through my favorites flexible seating organization tools.

1. 3 Drawer Cart

One of the biggest issues that comes with flexible seating is that students are not staying put at one specific desk. Students typically keep their belongings in their desk, but because they now do not have a desk to store their materials in, teachers will need a different solution. I got the idea of using these 3 drawers carts from my cooperating teacher during student teaching. These drawers are the perfect size to hold materials in and are pretty affordable. Simply choose a name tag to write the students name on and stick it to their drawer. When it is time to clean their bins you can pull them out of the cart so students can spread out and work.

2. Flexible Basket

The other challenge teachers face with flexible seating comes with storing the smaller flexible seating options, such as pillows and cushions. Flexible baskets from Ikea are the perfect solution. These baskets can hold multiple items and are very durable because of their flexible material.

My biggest piece of advice to you, walk through your classroom and your seating options before the school year starts. Make sure every piece of seating has a home in the classroom and think about the logistics of your and your students daily routine.
